Health centre parking storm

Concerns were raised over the impact of a proposed health facility on Northolt town centre at a meeting this week.

Ealing Council's Health, Housing and Social Services panel met on Tuesday night to discuss the proposed health centre in Peel House, Church Road, which would house three relocated GP surgeries.

But there was concern that parking provisions would interfere with a scheme to regenerate the town centre.

Under current plans, Peel House would provide 12 parking spaces and a drop-off point. There are no parking spaces at any of the current surgeries.

Hazel Ware, panel member and councillor for Northolt Mandeville ward, said she was concerned that bringing more cars into the area would impact on shoppers who wanted some-where to park.

Dilmohan Singh Bhasin, co-opted member of the panel and former chairman of the patients' forum, said: "The main issue here should be about health and health provisions in the area.

"There are three GPs situated in the area currently. How many of their patients are given the luxury of free parking spaces?"

A vote was taken in favour of a recommendation, which means the primary care trust should consult the panel over the proposal. A meeting with residents is expected sometime in the next four weeks.
