Work on multi-million pound leisure centre begins
WORK on a £15m state-of-the-art leisure centre will be begin next week.
Demolition of the former police station was completed earlier this month after the old Northolt Swimarama was knocked down in March.
The doors to the flash new complex, in Eastcote Lane North, are planned to open early 2010.
It will boast an eight-lane 25 metre competition pool, a 12 x16 metre learner pool, a dance studio, gym, community hall, library, cafe and police safer neighbourhood ward base.
Contractor Willmott Dixon will be putting up hoarding from Monday (29) in preparation for working on the foundations.
The jury is still out on a name for the new centre after residents were asked for their ideas by the council.
Suggestions made include Northolt Leisure Centre, Northolt Leisurama and Northolt Community and Sports Centre.
Community services chief Councillor Phil Taylor said: "This will be a spectacular and much-needed replacement for Swimarama.
"The new Leisure Centre will offer so much more and I'm confident that the extensive range of facilities will attract many more people to come and make full use of it."
