20mph zone planned for Oldfield Circus

The SPEED limit could be slashed to 20mph in a large section of Northolt after road bosses agreed funding for the scheme.

The slow zone for the area around Oldfield Circus could be in place as early as the end of next year if the proposals are agreed in a public consultation.

The zone would run from the junction of Badminton Close and Pett's Hill Road in the south west, to Oldfield Circus in the north to the junction of Wadham Gardens and Greenford Road in the north east, and to Carr Road in the South.

It would be enforced by speed bumps, pedestrian crossings and other measures which will be decided in the consultation.

Council leader and Greenford Green ward councillor Jason Stacey said: "People speeding along these roads has been an issue in the past.

"Some don't have humps at all and the council put in old-style road humps many years ago which over time have worn down a bit.

"We will begin public consultation early next year and if residents vote for it they will get it."
But not everyone is convinced by the idea.

Tim Lack, of Badminton Close, said: "It's not necessary. It's the young lads in the Golf GTIs who are the problem but they're one in 500 cars.

"It's ridiculous, you're going to get more pollution and the exhaust manufacturers will be rubbing their hands in joy."

We'd like to hear from you.
