Woman left in cockroach hell
Cockroaches are making a woman and her young granddaughter's lives a misery but they say pleas to the council to exterminate the pests have fallen on deaf ears.
Homeless Beryl Williams-Robinson and five-year-old Akira Kerr have endured weeks of sleepless nights and fears for their health since being placed in temporary accommodation in Windmill Road, Greenford.
Ms Williams-Robinson has tried to get the town hall to take action since she was placed there on September 1. Their landlord decided he wanted his property back and kicked them out.
The 52-year-old, who works as a sales advisor in Ealing Broadway said: "It's horrible.
"You turn off the light and they all swarm out from behind the fridge and radiators, one of them by the headboard of the bed.
"I get woken up at night by them crawling on my face and I can't leave anything out, like a toothbrush or food, because the roaches will be crawling all over it.
"The council say the room is livable but no one has come down to see it.
"I understand they have problems housing people, I'm not saying they should put me in a luxury apartment or anything but just somewhere livable."
But after being contacted by the Gazette the council vowed to take action.
A spokeswoman said: "A pest control company has been contacted and action will be taken immediately.
"Our housing officers will also be contacting the tenant and offering her alternative accommodation."
