Car park spy causing car attacks in Northolt

Keen-eyed neighbours are locked in a cat and mouse game with a man they believe is the source a spate of car attacks.

Residents around Hazeltree Lane and surrounding roads in Northolt have seen the car park spy who photographs vehicles for thieves to target later.

The spotter has been seen several times, always before one or more vehicles are broken into - at least 10 cars have been targeted in recent weeks.

One hardy resident even approached the mysterious snapper, who quickly fled.

Hazeltree Lane resident Terry Wells, 63, said: "In the early hours of Friday 7 a yellow Fiat and a silver Peugeot were targeted, both times the passenger door had been wrenched open.

"Earlier that night an Asian-looking guy was seen driving around and looked as if he was taking pictures of cars.

"He was seen the Thursday before and cars were broken into by the next morning then as well, the cars were broken into between 2-3am afterwards both times. It's too much of a coincidence.

"Each time he was driving an old grey Vauxhall with dents all along one side.
"My neighbour and I went up to him after the most recent incident to see what he was doing and he ran back, jumped into his car and sped off. We chased him in a car but he got away.

"I have CCTV of the guy going up to the cars and breaking in later that night, he only went to those two and didn't look at any of the other cars.

I rang the police on the Friday morning but they didn't seem to want to know, even when I said I had footage."

Police said they are investigating at least one incident.

Detective constable Tim Brownson urged neighbours to be on their guard against thieves and added: "We'd like to remind all car owners not to leave any valuables in their cars."
