New bus planned for Wood End Estate

Delighted residents have welcomed plans for a much needed bus route for their estate.

Neighbours on the Wood End Estate, Northolt, have been struggling without a service for years and are hopeful that their campaigning will have finally paid off.

Dave Dwyer, chairman of the Wood End Residents Association, said: "We're over the moon.

"It's been a long time coming, Wood End Estate has had nothing which has been a real hardship for those with difficulty walking or carrying shopping.

"The nearest bus stops are in Whitton Avenue or in Greenford Road at Sudbury Hill, it's unacceptable that people have to walk that far.

"The new route would also help those going to hospital who currently find it difficult. Even if they have to change it will be better than it is now."

Transport for London (TfL) say the new route is planned to start in September following a consultation in January or February.

It would start in Lillian Board Way and go along Wood End Gardens to Ruislip via Rayners Lane and South Harrow.

The new bus would most likely operate on Mondays to Saturdays from 7am to 7pm with an average 30 minute service.

A TfL spokeswoman said: "We review the network when contracts come up for renewal every five to seven years.

"The 487 is up for renewal and as a result we're looking at proposals for the Wood End Estate Area."

We'd like to hear from you.

I lived on that estate for 27 years...Hendren Close, and i know its out of the way for buses but the roads are not wide enough for a bus. And to start at Lilian, where is the bus suppose to turn around. I don't think residents are gonna be too happy when it goes ahead.
