Mourners march in Greenford murder victim's memory
About 150 of Ian Newtion's family and friends walked the route of his final journey to highlight the lack of progress made in making his murder site safer.
The popular singer, also known as Scoobie Santino, was killed in Greenford Roundabout on March 22 when he was slashed in the neck by a broken bottle.
This weekend, the fifth Sunday since he died, mourners marched from the underpass to the Scout Hut in Rockware Avenue.
Mr Newtion, a father-of-one, had been singing at a party there and was killed on his way home between 8 and 9am.
His brother Cleave Newtion said the event was one of the vigils held every Sunday at the site since the 45-year-old, of Fulham, died. He added it was the first time mourners have left the underpass and said it was designed to raise the profile of the crime and the lack of security in the area by taking the vigil onto the streets.
He said: "We wouldn't wish any family to go through what we have. We want to make sure this vulnerable area is addressed, whether that's with CCTV, a police presence or a mixture of both.
"Residents say they would rather dodge the busy traffic than use the underpass which becomes a no go area at times. We don't want someone else to be seriously injured or killed before this is rectified.
"Police say there have only been three attacks since 2007 but there's a gap between what is reported and what actually happens.
"This was a large physical presence designed to raise awareness."
A spokeswoman said the council had assessed the underpass with the police and Transport for London. They are hoping to install CCTV but numerous potential blindspots are causing a problem.
She added: "There's no simple solution for improving the security of the underpass. We're working on this but clearly we need to make sure we don't jump to a quick fix which doesn't solve the problem."
Inspector Dominic Lemonde, in charge of Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Greenford and Northolt said: "The Greenford Green ward team are doing reassurance patrols in the area as a matter of course and we're working with the local authority as to what security needs should be put in place. We're taking the matter very seriously."
Anyone with information should call police on 020 8358 0400 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
