Greenford pirate radio shut down

Posted by Michael Russell on May 7, 09 04:08 PM in Crime

Pirates were cut off from the airways when police took down their 20ft mast.

Officers from the North Greenford Safer Neighbourhood team were alerted by residents fed up of having their television signals disrupted.

The massive transmitter had been set on the top of Allen Court, a large tower block, about 12 storeys high in Ridding Lane, Greenford.

PCs Sue Tither and Paul Tellyn removed it on Thursday (30) with help from Ealing Council and Ofcom, the communications watchdog.

PC Tither said: "It was on the roof of the block which is one of the highest buildings we have in our area.

"It was a concern because it could've been interfering with air traffic, we're not talking about a small ariel, it was a large mast with four ariels on it."

We'd like to hear from you.
