Council camera vans put lives in danger say residents
Angry neighbours say council camera vans are endangering lives by blocking motorists' lines of sight in their eagerness to issue fines.
Residents in Costons Avenue, Greenford, say the vehicles, used to catch drivers who park illegally, routinely stop on double yellow lines themselves, stopping on Greenford Road at the junction with their avenue.
If they want to drive into the busy main road they have to inch slowly forward, exposing the front of their car before they can see traffic approaching from the right.
Alfred Acorn, 71, said: "If you misjudge it you could get killed.
"We've tried talking to them but they just tell us to contact the council, which we've done but nothing happens.
"We've even got the police to move them on a couple of times, they stop it for a while and then they're back to the same old habits again, it's been going on for months."
"It would be less dangerous if they parked on the opposite corner and no dnager at all if they park on the opposite side of Greenford Road but they don't, they have no common sense."
Mollie Evett, 74, added: "It's diabolical, you inch out waiting for a big bang before you can see whether any traffic is coming.
"Everyone is complaining about this.
"I've written another long letter to the council but nothing seems to be done, is it going to take a fatal accident before the council take action?"
A Council spokeswoman said: "In April, the council instructed its enforcement van drivers to not park on Greenford Road near the junction with Coston Avenue.
"We're aware that an enforcement van driver recently returned to this location and, as soon as we were alerted to this, we instructed the driver to immediately move the van.
"The council will continue to take action to ensure CCTV vans do not park at this location when monitoring parking and traffic restrictions in the area."
