Accident waiting to happen in Perivale
Anxious residents are worried about a shortcut which sees scores of residents competing for space with traffic and say it is an accident waiting to happen.
The Perivale station carpark is used as a cut through from Bideford Avenue to Horsenden Lane South and the entrance to the underground.
But many who walk through it say the narrow walkway and equally narrow road, divided only by a white line, makes them feel unsafe.
The problem is motorists drive straight from entrance to entrance to avoid congested roads when they are supposed to only use the road area to get to a parking space.
A 41-year-old Bilton Road resident who has complained to the town hall, said: "The cars zoom along. It's only a small path so mothers with small children going to the nursery nearby or groups of people are forced into the road.
"The days are going to be darker soon, the lights in the car park are not good so there be more chance of a driver not seeing a pedestrian.
"It's ridiculous, there is going to be a serious accident one day and then perhaps Ealing Council will wake up to reality."
Others using the walkway agree.
Vishal Prajapati, 25, of Sarsfield Road, said: "Some drivers cut the corners quite sharply and get quite close so I'd definitely like to see it changed."
Kava Kohnaposhe, 30, of Horsenden Lane South added: "They get quite close to you and at times I've turned around to find they're right behind me without me realising it.
"The driver only has to get distracted and you could get hit."
But now the council say they are looking at ways to make the walkway safer.
A town hall spokeswoman said: "Residents' safety is of the utmost importance to us. Officers have visited the site and are now looking at ways to best improve safety, including remarking where pedestrians should walk."
