Pensioner crushed outside Greenford Tesco

A Pensioner was crushed between two cars after a driver reversed into him while he was getting into a minicab.

The accident happened in a lay-by in front of Tesco in Greenford Road, Greenford Broadway.

The 83-year-old was being helped into the back of a red Honda Civic by the taxi driver when a green Vauxhall Vectra shot backwards into him at about 11.20am on Tuesday (29).

Terry Cunningham, 62, of Northolt, who spoke to eye witnesses shortly after, said: "The front of the green car was up on the pavement between the slip road and Greenford Road when the driver's foot must have slipped and it reversed hard into the side of the minicab."

The impact smashed the man's pelvis and leg and the force left a large dent in the side of the minicab.

He was rushed by ambulance to Ealing Hospital, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Mr Cunningham added he was not surprised the accident happened, pointing out the lay-by was dangerous with so many cars vying for space.

He added: "It's a death trap, I've nearly been knocked down there myself. This is the second time in three months someone has been hit there."

Police closed off Greenford Road for three hours creating long tailbacks and diverting buses.

The minicab was moved to the other side of the road while officers took the Vauxhall Vectra away for examination.

Anyone with information should call Ealing Police on 0300 123 1212.
