Northolt mother forced to sleep on floor

A Desperate mother is forced to sleep on the floor with her baby and toddler because her tiny flat is too small for her family.

Amarjit Bachu, of Hollowfield Walk, Northolt, is appealing to the council to find her a two-bedroom apartment and keep the promises she claims it made several years ago.

She cannot fit a bed into the living room where she sleeps with her two sons aged four months and two years.

While her two daughters, aged five and seven, sleep on the bed in the only bedroom.

Ms Bachu said: "I've lived here since 2002, I was told that when my eldest turned two I'd be given a two-bed flat. But that didn't happen and I was told the system had changed.

"I found out I was expecting again and the council said I would be moved when my second daughter turned one, but again that didn't happen.

"I was told I'd have to start bidding for properties and I'm still bidding now. I always get the same reply, that there's no properties available.

"It's uncomfortable, drafty and there are few occasions where I or my baby haven't been ill. I've started suffering from depression.

"If I had bigger place I could start working again. I've done a child care course so could like after children while looking after my own."

The council says it is working with Ms Bachu to find her a more suitable home.

A spokeswoman said: "Demand for housing is continuing to considerably outstrip supply, despite the borough meeting social housing targets.

"The council assesses anyone who needs rehousing on their level of need and is aware of Ms Bhachu's situation.

"The family is on the waiting list and officers have spoken to Ms Bhachu this week to discuss the private sector option as an alternative and we are working with her
to find a suitable property.

"Ways to further increase the supply of social and affordable housing
remain a key priority in the borough."

We'd like to hear from you.
