Despite continued denials by health officials over potential Accident and Emergency department closures, Ealing Hospital could be stripped of major services under drastic measures being considered by NHS London.

According to a leaked document obtained by the Gazette, Ealing Hospital could potentially lose its A&E, maternity unit and children's services department if measures to address the £5billion NHS London funding shortfall are implemented.

And with more than 100,000 people each year being admitted to A&E, acute services stretched beyond their capacity and the imminent closure of Ealing's stroke and trauma units, health campaigners claim this will have a catastrophic effect on patients in the borough.

Its chairwoman, Katherine Tyler, was also judged best chairperson overall at the public speaking competition held at St Benedicts School in Ealing last week.
The competition, organised by Rotary for many years, tests the public speaking skills of youngsters, in teams of three, from schools in the Rotary West area.

A teenager from Greenford has been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety on the railway after he appeared to force a girl off a train platform.

A 19-year-old is currently on bail pending further inquiries but the British Transport Police are appealing for the girl to come forward following the incident at Loughton Tube station at around 4pm on Thursday February 18.

An estate agent, with branches across West London, has been nominated for its support of local organisations, schools and voluntary groups.

A cancer care nurse, who helps terminally ill patients in the final days of their lives, is the first person to be nominated for our Pride in our People Awards 2010.


Olive Hoare, from Northolt, is one of nine Ealing Marie Curie Cancer Care nurses, who is also fronting the Gazette-backed campaign to raise £170,000 to improve services in the borough.A Marie Curie nurse for 13 years, Olive, 62, also worked at Meadow House Hospice. STAFF, pupils and parents made a united effort to celebrate their school - by making the most of their differences.

More than 120 students and 28 staff laid on a cultural evening last Thursday (11) to help mark their school's golden anniversary.

Work has started on supported accommodation comprising 14 flats for young people.
