Pensioner in hospital after Northolt traffic incident

A pensioner was left with a broken ankle and serious head injuries following a serious incident on a notorious road.

The unnamed victim, a woman aged 73, was knocked to the ground after crossing the busy Church Road, Northolt, at about 12.15pm on Tuesday (20).

She attempted to use a pedestrian crossing near the junction with Parkfield Road when she was involved in a collision with a private hire taxi, a Mercedes Vito.

The pensioner was taken to hospital where she was treated for serious head injuries and a broken ankle. She remains in a stable condition.

The driver of the taxi, a 41-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He was taken to a north west London police station and has since been bailed until late February pending further inquiries.

Officers from the Met's Alperton traffic garage are investigating the incident.

Anyone who saw the event is asked to call 020 8998 5319, or speak anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
