Children enjoy canal wildlife on floating classroom
Spotting unusual birds, learning about river insects and admiring the untouched greenery of Horsenden Hill was enjoyed by pupils who took to the water for a class.
Children from Horsenden Primary School embarked on a trip on the Elsdale Floating Classroom last week to learn about wildlife on the Grand Union Canal, just a short walk from the school in Horsenden Lane North, Greenford.
Teachers said it was wonderful experience for some of the children, aged seven and eight, who had never been on a boat before.
Deputy head Sally Wright added: "The year three children all had a great time and even the torrential rain couldn't damp their enthusiasm.
"Even though staff and children live in the area, we all learned what a rich and diverse environment we have locally."
The eager explorers learned how to identify birds including moorhens, coots and cormorants using electronic wildlife keys.
