New street lighting for dangerous roads in Northolt and Perivale
A dark road and a footpath notorious for late night crimes are to get new street lighting to make it safer.
Shadwell Drive in Northolt and Scorton Road, which backs onto Ealing Central Sports Ground in Perivale are one of six dim lanes and alleyways to be lit up across the borough.
Ealing Council has allocated a further £102,000 to improve visibility in crime hot spots after the scheme was launched last year.
Other roads to get the upgrade are Warple Way in South Acton and, the access road to Old Farm Court, School Passage and Tentelow Lane all in Southall.
From last year's scheme, improved lighting in the footpath off Godfrey Avenue, Northolt was the first to be completed this month.
But work to upgrade the alleyway behind Bond Street, Ealing has been put on hold until the redevelopment of the Empire cinema complex in Ealing Broadway.
Similarly, additional lighting in the notorious Dean Gardens in West Ealing, where a man was fatally assaulted in September, has also been deferred while new CCTV cameras with built-in LED floodlights are trialled.
Instead, Beaconsfield Avenue and Western Road, Southall will see new lights switched on by the end of June.
